PS3 makes odd noises when downloading?

Okay my PS3 is making some odd crackling noises when it's downloading demos... it kind of sounds like a PC booting up after being off for a while. Is this normal? I got the PS3 for relatively cheap from a friend ($150 with Black Ops, Crysis 2, and Socom 4) or is there something wrong with it? Thanks.
